Mitchell had her first significant role in a film The Crow: City of Angels, where she played the teenage addicted to drugs Grace. Mitchell had been a kid star during The Crow's 1996 filming. She auditioned for Mary Camden as part of the 7th Heaven family drama. The producers initially rejected her audition because they believed she wasn't suitable for Mary.
